The houndstooth pattern, characterised by its square motif with distorted tips, is supposedly of Scottish origin. At the time, shepherds without any affiliation to a specific clan would dress in warm wool adorned with this pattern to avoid conflict. Today, houndstooth can be woven into any material to add elegance to clothing or accessories, such as this brown jacquard silk tie.
Jacquard silk is not necessarily a fabric in the truest sense of the word, but a silk weaving technique. The Jacquard loom, invented in the early 19th century by a man from Lyon, Joseph Marie Jacquard, made it possible to mechanically intertwine silk threads for the very first time, thus revolutionising the lives of weavers. The patterns are actually embedded into the fabric, giving the fabric texture and thickness while retaining its silky softness and flexibility.
