The jacquard silk used to make this green tie features a revolutionary weaving technique, invented at the beginning of the 19th century by a man from Lyon: Joseph Marie Jacquard. Thanks to his ingenious invention, it was now possible to mechanically intertwine silk threads with a loom; unlike other techniques involving textile design such as printing or embroidery, the desired pattern could now be incorporated into the fabric itself.
Made in Italy, this green jacquard silk tie has a subtle and elegant houndstooth pattern. Houndstooth, a pattern of supposedly Scottish origin, was once reserved for two-piece suits and popularised in the 1930s by Edward VIII, Prince of Wales, when he appeared in Vogue wearing one such suit. Quickly adopted by high society, it was then in the 50s that Christian Dior made it the emblem of his brand. Timeless, elegant and refined, the houndstooth pattern remains one of the most iconic motifs in fashion!
