Did you know that oxford was not made in the English city of the same name, but that it is named after it? Discovered by a Scottish draper in the early 19th century, oxford shirts were soon worn by university polo players. And for good reason: hard-wearing and breathable thanks to the basket weave, it is a very pleasant fabric to wear and easy to care for. Ours, with a rather heavy weight of 170 g/m², comes from the famous Italian weaver Albiate 1830, an expert in this field.
The button-down oxford shirt - or OCBD for Oxford Cloth Button-Down - was the first smart-casual shirt, that brought the notion of comfort into male fashion. A true OCBD is especially generous in the collar, which is furthermore supposed to be soft, no interlining, for it to form its typical S shape in a so-called soft roll. Following your feedback, we have given back some of its original generosity to the button-down collar shirt by lengthening it by half a centimetre all while keeping our own elegant and typically French twist. So you won't find a box pleat or loop on the back of this oxford shirt for a slightly more chic than casual look!
