The oxford shirt

A classic of every men's wardrobe

The oxford shirt is an essential of the men's wardrobe, just like a pair of quality jeans and a trench coat. It is the perfect compromise between formal and casual. Besides being very comfortable to wear, this is why the sportswear shirt is so popular.

While historians still argue about the origin of the oxford shirt, purists argue there is only one "true" oxford shirt, the so-called OCBD (for Oxford Cloth Button-Down) as designed by the Brooks Brothers in 1896. According to this, an oxford shirt is supposed to have a button-down collar, buttoned at tips and back, a back pleat, hanger loop and possibly a breast pocket. Our oxford shirts have more stylistic freedom, and even though we honor the traditional button-down collar with one of the four designs, we give our shirts a little more elegance by omitting pleat, loop and breast pocket.

Although the Oxford shirt was popularized by Ivy League students and their preppy style, it is not subject to any style rules and is, therefore, the easiest shirt to wear.

The softest cotton
for your skin and our planet

Brushed cotton

Ultra soft and fluffy

Remember when you were a kid believing that clouds must be incredibly softto the touch? Cotton has the same effect on us: so soft that we want to throw ourselves headfirst into a sea of cotton balls. At least, that's what we have been thinking about when we first touched the brushed cotton fabric of our oxford shirts.

Brushed cotton, also called cotton flannel, is an ultra-soft fabric. Its base is combed cotton that, after weaving, undergoes another treatment to give it a fluffy appearance: brushing.

From plant to fabric, to learn more about brushed cotton have a read of our latest blog article.

Our cotton fabric has been brushed on both sides, making it feel even more comfortable on the bare skin. The result is a cozy soft fabric with a relatively light weight of 140 g/m², suitable for any season.

A responsible and certified production

Making ecologically responsible choices in the production of our clothing is more than an aspiration, it is a conviction. For this reason, you will find more and more organic cotton in our collections. The fabric of our Oxford shirts is therefore 100% organic and holds the following certifications:

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is an international standard for organic fibers with the most demanding set of requirements currently available in terms of environmental and social criteria.

GRS (Global Recycle Standard) is a label aimed specifically at textile companies and means that at least 50% of the fibers that make up the product are made from recycled material.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, also called "Confidence in Textiles", guarantees that finished textile products and the products used in their manufacture are harmless to people (employees and consumers) and planet.

le coton bio certifié

This organic oxford fabric was woven in Portugal by a manufacturer that has specialized in shirting fabrics for over 75 years. In other words, traditional expertise has passed the test for tomorrow's demands. And to learn even more about organic cotton, check out our blog.

How to wear the oxford shirt?

As mentioned above, there are no style rules for the Oxford shirt. You can combine it with a suit as well as with a pair of jeans, tuck it in or wear it out and complement it with a tie (if the shirt collar allows it).

However, the brushed cotton fabric of our oxford shirts, with its fluffy look, is best combined with other textured garments and accessories. Therefore, a wool flannel suit or a suit in Panama weave will work better than suits with smooth fabric structures. The same goes for the tie: silk grenadine or knit tie - choose a textured tie to emphasize the casual elegance of the Oxford shirt.
