The overshirt, your new anti-chill companion
Practicality, comfort and style
Winter is showing its face and with it, its sometimes capricious days. Gone are the days of linen t-shirts and light shorts, it's time for... overshirts!
Over or under, the overshirt adapts to climate changes in a snap. Depending on its material and thickness, it can replace your jacket in mid-season or slip under a heavy coat in winter - that's called layering. A true powerhouse in your wardrobe, the classic collar overshirt delicately reveals the other pieces you've carefully selected: a shirt, a turtleneck, a light crewneck sweater... It's time to express your personality!
As you've understood, the overshirt is the easy piece to throw on in any weather! And ours, with its 307g per m² of mulesing-free certified wool plus lining, will equip you all winter long. Water-repellent, resistant, warm and wrinkle-free, it's no wonder boiled wool has been used for ages by Scandinavian peoples and alpine hunters!
Boiled wool: a fabric perfectly suited to its season
The base: 100% virgin wool
To design a weather-resistant winter overshirt, the choice of material was immediately obvious: a 100% thermoregulating wool fabric that keeps you warm when it's cold and breathes by wicking away moisture when it's hot. Rather practical to avoid bad odors.
Wool indeed, but not just any wool! We set our sights on our Italian partner MTT (Manifattura Tessile Toscana). A specialist in dense wool fabrics since the 1960s, boiled wool has been at the heart of their expertise for over 30 years.
The felting process
But what exactly is boiled wool? No sheep or ball of wool was cooked in a pot of boiling water. It's only after being knitted that the wool sheets go through the felting or fulling process. In a felting machine, they are immersed in hot water and undergo vigorous beating so that the wool fibers open up and then tighten. This process creates air bubbles in the wool and gives it that felted appearance. For finishing and to be called "boiled wool", the wool coming out of the felting machine will be dyed then pressed or decated. And voilà: you get a warm, pleasant wool that can be adjusted according to your needs.
