"Ancient madder" silk is a fabric dyed with madder, an expensive plant chemically synthesized in 1869 to produce the first artificially reproduced natural pigment. This silk is characterized by a matte texture and vibrant autumn colors. While the term "ancient" remains mysterious, the word "madder" reminds us of maderization, an alteration in color and taste of wine.
