How to clean a tie

Quality ties are often manufactured from delicate fabrics. In most cases, if you get a stain on your tie, it will be fatal to the tie, and it can damage the colour if you try to wash it.

If you feel that the operation is difficult, ask your dry cleaner’s advice.

You can also remove the stain yourself by moistening your tie with warm water and Marseille soap before rinsing with cold water. Do not rub the stain: you run the risk of marking the tie even worse with the cleaning product.

Reminder: no tie, regardless of its quality or material, goes in the washing machine. Never!

Ironing your tie

The materials used to make ties (linen, silk, cashmere, knitted fabric) are noble materials that do not stand up well to heat. Ironing your ties must therefore be done very carefully and delicately to avoid burning them. You should always insert a cotton cloth between the iron and your tie to avoid too violent a contact, which would damage it.

Remember to set the temperature of your steam iron to the lowest setting (<140° C) and iron your tie only with the tip of your iron, only in the places that need it.

Crumpled ties

A crumpled tie will seriously harm your style, by giving you a sloppy image. To avoid crinkling your tie, do not tighten your tie knot too much and remember to always undo it when you remove the tie. Many men adopt the bad habit of leaving their tie knotted and slipping it on unchanged the next day. This method is harmful for your tie. So take the time to tie and untie your tie every day to optimise its lifespan.

When you travel, do not forget to gently roll up your tie and pack it in a place where it will not be crushed or damaged.

It is very difficult to uncrumple a tie. To remove a few wrinkles, you can hang your tie for some time vertically on your drying-rack for example. The tie will partially straighten out by itself. If you decide that ironing it is unavoidable, it’s better to go to a laundry and get it dry cleaned.

To maintain your ties at their best, we advise you to store them in a dry place on a hanger after untying the knot.
