The Belt Factory: how to choose your belt
The belt is an essential accessory for your outfit, and puts the finishing touch to it. That’s why it is important to choose it well.
The color
To accompany a suit, choose a thin leather belt, that is to say, with a width of about 3 cm. The colour of the belt should be in harmony with that of your shoes. So if you are wearing black shoes, go for a black leather belt. Also, if you wear shoes in shades of brown or cognac, wear a brown belt or cognac belt. Regarding the buckle, you should go with something simple and sober.
Take care of it !
A leather belt needs maintenance just as much as your shoes do. You can apply now and then a product for treating leather (avoid shoe-wax, which may stain your clothes). To avoid distorting its shape, roll it up or hang it up by the buckle.
The size
To be sure to choose the right size, there is a simple rule. The prong (the metal pin that fits into the hole) has to go in the central hole. This means that if you have a three-hole belt, the pin must be at the second hole. However, if you have a belt with five holes, the pin must be placed in the third hole. If it does not fit into the correct hole, go to your cobbler to get your belt adjusted.
What belt to choose ?
To accompany jeans, you can wear a leather belt, a suede belt or an elastic belt. These will be slightly wider than the thin belts, between 3.5 and 5 cm. An elastic belt will give a casual touch to your outfit.
