Socks, shoes or boots for christmas !

5 October 2013

What shall I put out tonight to receive my gifts? a sock or a shoe? and where? at the foot of my tree, on the fireplace, or outside the front door? it would be unfortunate if my gifts disappeared right under my nose! Be aware that, depending on the country, you do not put out the same thing, nor do you put it out in the same place!

Traditionally in France, we put a shoe or a pair of shoes under the tree. Before the nineteenth century, people generally then put an apple, an orange or a sugar candy pipe in the shoes ... nothing but food items! Today these traditions are a bit lost ...

In Germany, as in Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, in the North of France and Lorraine, you can choose to put out either socks or boots – both will work! However, make no mistake, you have to put them outside the door of the house!! Then Father Christmas on his sleigh will stop outside...

In the United States and the United Kingdom, the tradition is to use a sock. It's decorated so that it looks festive! Generally, the children put this sock next to their bed or around the fireplace in order to receive toys, candy or fruit! Now you know which option to choose ... you just need to put out your sock, shoe or boot to receive lots of gifts at Christmas this year!

For your Christmas gift ideas, of course, you can choose our socks and sock packs.
