2022: a year in review

Exactly one year ago to the day, we were sitting here, in the same place, with a freshly brewed coffee, our eyes fixed on the screen and our fingers on the keyboard. The same office, the same questions: How were the last twelve months for us? For you? For the world? Have your needs changed? Your wishes? Did we deliver on our promises? Have we lived up to our ambitions? And what will we do differently this year? But before we look ahead, let's review the past year together.

We had wished for it at the beginning of the year, we dared to hope for it, a year without restrictions, a return to normality. But what did this new "normal" look like now? As we have been forced to stay indoors (in our own homes or country) since the early 2020s, many have developed a new appreciation, even a need, for reduced consumerism. In return, interests became more local, more responsible. At the same time, many have revised their clothing style: less formal wear, but a well-balanced mix of casual-smart designs, comfort and responsibility. Basically, garments that can be worn for all the occasions we hope to find again one day.

Your new essentials

So in 2022, we at The Nines have continued to adapt to these new needs, creating new casualwear collections that better fit your new everyday life. We revamped our chinos, released our first overshirts and jackets, focused on love with a beautiful wedding collection, and played with performance fabrics to create wrinkle-resistant, breathable, and increasingly sophisticated shirts. In other words: We put the fun back in dressing well without the guilt!

We released these handpicked pieces mostly in the form of limited collections at pre-sale prices. Limiting new releases also allowed us to increase the stock of our essentials to get ahead of the frustrating sold out many of our loyal customers fear.

In 2023, we will not only continue to work on your new essentials, but will also focus on one major project in particular: the environmental impact of our products.

Environmental impact:
Control by conviction

To combat climate change, environmental labeling of textiles will gradually become mandatory in France from January 2023. This has two objectives: To push consumers into a more responsible purchase behavior, and to encourage manufacturers to adopt more sustainable production methods. For now, the obligation for this eco-labeling will only affect large companies with an annual turnover of more than 50 million euros (The Nines does not belong to this group). Out of conviction, we are already investing in it!

The discussions around the environmental law have paved the way for new anti-greenwashing inspection structures like La Belle Empreinte: A trustworthy seal of approval that guarantees a product is good for all, planet, jobs and customers after analyzing 40 criteria. We have long wondered if our choice of materials and production sites are the right ones for the future of our planet. Therefore, having the environmental and social impact of our production audited by an independent organization is the best solution to provide qualified answers and take improvement actions when needed. For this reason, this year you will gradually see an eco-score appear on our product pages.

The variety of products:
Between quality and limited editions

This year we don't have very many new releases planned, but a few carefully crafted pieces that are easy to wear and combine, and always under the same quality standards we have been following since the beginning. Without telling you everything today, here are the products that will set the tone in the coming months:

- a few limited edition shirt collections

- a summery linen cotton t-shirt

- and a some new accessories for our grooms of 2023
