In order to offer you the softest socks in the world, The Nines started by selecting an exceptional cotton: Nile cotton. Among the various plants grown on the particularly fertile lands along the Delta, we selected two to achieve the best possible result. The first, the very precious Giza 87, has the ability to retain colors extremely well, so your socks always remain vibrant.
The second, representing barely 0.4% of Egyptian cotton production, is considered the Rolls-Royce of cotton. This is Giza 45. But what makes it so special? In addition to being cultivated in an environment conducive to its proper development, Giza 45 originates from a blend of Brazilian and Indian seeds imported in the early 19th century by the founder of modern Egypt, Mohamed Ali Pasha.
Once the cotton flowers reach maturity, the cotton is handpicked to avoid damaging it. Its particularly long fibers are fine, rigid, and shiny, offering the socks great softness, strong resistance, and a natural sheen.
100% Organic Socks
Soft socks woven from exceptional cotton are already (very) good, but The Nines wanted to go even further. With increasing concern for environmental issues, it was only natural for us to turn to cotton that, in addition to all its properties, is organic.
Why did we make this choice? Because cotton cultivation is one of the most polluting industries in the world: high carbon dioxide emissions, lots of pesticides, and enormous water consumption. To reduce this environmental impact, organic cotton is grown using natural compost instead of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, contains no GMOs, requires half as much water, and is dyed without the use of heavy metals or carcinogens. And of course, all this is certified by numerous labels such as Oekotex, Greenpeace Detox, GOTS…
In addition to being environmentally friendly, it is no less high-quality, quite the contrary. Organic cotton fiber is non-allergenic, thicker, more flexible, and above all, softer. As we mentioned, the organic Nile cotton socks are the softest in the world!
