How to choose your belt size
A fitted belt is a belt that you attach using the centre hole. The length of a fitted belt is the distance between the end of the buckle and this central hole. This distance also corresponds to your hip measurement.
By measuring your hip circumference and waist circumference with a measuring-tape
If you want to wear your belt at hip height, your hip measurement will be the belt length to select when ordering a belt. If you want to wear your belt at waist height, your waist measurement will be the belt length to select when ordering belts.
Be careful, it is important to distinguish between hip circumference and waistline. Here is an explanatory diagram :
Finding the size of your belt using an existing belt
You can also use one of your belts from your wardrobe to help you find out the fitted size of the belt that you want to order. To do this, simply calculate the distance between the end of the buckle and the hole you use to fasten your belt.
For example, if you fasten your current belt at the second hole, you will need to measure your waist size as shown below :
Finding the size of your belt from the size of your pants
You can also deduce your belt size from the size of your pants: just multiply by two the French size-number (be careful, do not use any other size-number such as the US size, for example) and then add five centimeters to the total.
Warning : this measure is less precise than the previous measures.
