Our collection of self-tie bow ties in silk satin

The self-tie bow tie by The Nines

Our self-tie bow ties are made of silk satin. Silk has many advantages. Its natural structure makes it a hypoallergenic fiber. It's also a material that adapts to all climates: thick and comfortable in winter, yet light in summer. Its thermoregulatory properties paradoxically give it both warming and cooling abilities. Silk is highly absorbent and dries quickly. It will keep you dry while allowing your skin to breathe. Despite its delicate appearance, it is robust and its soft surface resists stains. Finally, silk is easy to maintain.

Silk satin is highly prized by many designers because it confers a rich and luxurious appearance. Satin refers to a particular weave structure, constructed from a range of fibers, with silk being the most precious. Satin gives the fabric a shiny appearance thanks to its specific weave that consists of concealing the crossing points between warp and weft threads so that the surface appears smooth and shiny on the right side and matte on the reverse side.

Our slim or wide self-tie bow ties are solid-colored, and you'll find one that suits your tuxedo. Discretion is a fundamental factor in assembling a refined evening outfit that stands out without being exuberant. The adage "less is more" couldn't be more appropriate for this type of event. We recommend opting for black if you want your ensemble to remain understated. You can wear a colorful self-tie bow tie if the rest remains dark, so that the contrast is not dissonant. Deep colors, such as midnight blue, are appropriate.

Tying and matching your bow tie

As a general rule, the bow tie should be well-proportioned to your body type and the spread of your shirt collar. The pre-tied bow tie is easy to adjust, while the self-tie bow tie requires some skill. However, the latter will give you more personality. It's therefore an interesting option if you're looking for a wedding bow tie.

The self-tie bow tie is mainly worn for special occasions, weddings, galas, cocktail parties. It is generally paired with a wing collar shirt and a tuxedo. The self-tie bow tie consists of two silk ribbons that are tied in front to form the knot. Our self-tie bow ties are primarily made of silk satin and manufactured in Italy.

Regarding the self-tie bow tie, we advise you to follow these steps for optimal results. First, place one of the two ends lower than the other. Place the long end over the short end, then wrap it around the short end. Bring the long end up through the loop behind the bow. You have formed an initial knot. Next, fold the shorter end horizontally to form the two wings of the bow tie. Then, fold the longer end down over the center of the two previously formed wings. A small tip for the next step: pinch the two wings of the bow to secure the knot. Finally, hide the long end behind the folded end. To do this, take the long end by the center and pass it through the loop. Check our dedicated page on how to tie a bow tie.
