Keeping your head above water - A letter from our founders

We hope you and your relatives, friends, colleagues and all other important people in your life are well.

Before writing this letter, Renaud and I, founders of The Nines, have taken the necessary time to reflect and reorganise our company and how we work. We have taken measures to guarantee the health and economic safety of our employees and prepared ourselves so we can overcome this crisis together.

Reorganizing in times of crisis

For a small structure like ours the economic impact of such a crisis situation is no easy matter. In fact, our four shops in Paris have been closed for three weeks now. Of course we are aware that our shirts and accessories are not basic needs. Nevertheless, we have decided to keep our online shop open and deliver your orders as usual via our transport partners La Poste and DHL. The space in our warehouse and the flexibility of our team enable us to maintain the necessary social distance. Combined with the sanitary measures prescribed by the WHO, we were able to drastically reduce the health risk within our company.

Our modest contribution in fighting the pandemic

To do to our - modest - part in fighting the spread of the epidemic, we asked our shirting atelier to make breathing masks from the fabric left overs. After we had worked on a first prototype, it turned out that we would unfortunately receive these fabric masks much too late, as our manufacturer is currently busy making masks for the domestic market. However, this disappointment was followed by a pleasant surprise when our partner manufacturer from China contacted us...

This family run atelier, founded by a couple we met 5 years ago, offered to send us a stock of unused masks. This gesture touched us very much and we immediately handed these masks over to the local fire brigade, whose urgent need was known to us. And since Easter weekend is coming up, we added some chocolate to the parcel to bring a little moment of pleasure to the hard-working men and women of the French fire brigade in their exhausting days.

Supporting traditional crafts and local trade

Since the beginning of our adventure, we have been aiming to design high-quality clothing that is produced according to the traditional savoir-faire of crafts(wo)men and thus, complementing the elegance of the modern adventurers. We have established very strong links with a dozen tailoring ateliers in France, Italy, Portugal and Romania. Today, we are fortunate to be able to count on a welfare state that allows us - for the time being - to keep our heads above water. However, the clothing sector, which consists of physical shops, ateliers, weavers, tanners, etc., remains very fragile.

There are clearly worse things than the economic setbacks of a clothing brand, and we are far from being the only ones in this terrible situation. So we can only encourage you to support small, independent companies that you care about, whether it be The Nines or any other brand.

The best way to help us is to treat yourself.

Originally we had planned to launch our new collection of casual shirts at the beginning of this month. However, tailoring had to be paused for the production of masks, so we will not receive the shirts until the beginning of May. Therefore, we have decided to launch these shirts for the very first time as a pre-order. The first 50 buyers will benefit from our early bird offer and pay only 49 € instead of 69 €! This process enables us to keep our heads above water and prepare for the upcoming, more beautiful days in the truest sense of the word.

Many thanks in advance for your support!

We wish you and all those close to you physical and mental health, economic security and strength in the knowledge that, together, we can get through these uncertain times.

With best regards from France,

Erwan and Renaud
