How to properly care for cufflinks?
Cufflinks are pieces of jewellery and should therefore be treated as such.
For some they are an accessory for special occasions, for others an essential part of everyday wear. Cufflinks are pieces of jewelry needed to wear a French cuff shirt. However, due to their small size, they are exposed to one main danger: loss. To avoid losing them and at the same time keep them away from dust and humidity, you should store them in a special cufflink casket. Most importantly, you should never leave them on your shirt sleeves after wearing them, otherwise you might forget about it and accidentally put them in the washing machine.
And if you want to make your cufflinks shine again, you should always clean them in pairs. That way, over time, there will be no difference between your right and left cufflinks.
Cufflink care by material
Sterling silver cufflinks require more regular care than those made of steel. As with other silverware, you should therefore treat them occasionally with a little polish. Fingerprints? Just wipe them away with a soft cloth.
Steel cufflinks are easy to clean with a little soap and water. The same goes for fingerprints: use a soft cloth to remove them.
Cufflinks with lapis lazuli, mother-of-pearl or onyx inserts are best left to be cleaned by a jeweler. However, you can also do it yourself with water and mild soap or perform an ultrasonic bath.
Wood cufflinks are more delicate than other materials. They should not get wet, as this could cause the wood to swell. Therefore, we recommend that you simply dust them off with a soft, clean brush.
