The origin of the men's tie

The origin of the tie dates back to very distant times — it has literally traversed the ages and is associated with several peoples. Its first association dates back to 210 BC, when it is said to have been worn by the soldiers of Chinese emperor Qin Shih Huang in the region of Xian in China. Archaeologists reportedly found statuettes of the soldiers in 1974 in that same region. On the statues, each soldier appeared wearing a piece of fabric around his neck. Other historical research shows the appearance of the tie in the Roman Empire, as soldiers in Caesar's army also wore a piece of fabric around their necks. Let us now go back to the 17th century in France, during the reign of King Louis XIII. France was embroiled in the Thirty Years' War and called upon the Croatian army for support. These soldiers wore a colorful piece of fabric knotted around their necks, which greatly appealed to French soldiers. King Louis XIII, a pioneer of fashion, began wearing this accessory, which quickly spread through the royal court and then into high society. It is from this that the Frenchified word "croate" (Croatian) would become "cravate" (tie).

Our men's ties

Our mission is to offer ties that are both high quality and elegant. To achieve this, we personally select the finest fabrics for our ties, manufactured in a magnificent coastal region of Lecce, in Italy, where our ties and bow ties are crafted. It is thanks to this Italian expertise spanning more than 50 years and two generations that we are able to offer unique pieces. From the pattern to the bartack stitch, our tie maker masters the art of thread and needle to perfection! As a little anecdote, the bartack stitch is the final stitch in the making of our ties. It is made by wrapping the thread around the needle 18 times. It corresponds to the point where the stitching ends and reinforces it to prevent it from coming undone. We offer a wide range of men's ties suited to all occasions and body types: the slim tie is perfect for a slender frame, the silk grenadine tie is very airy, making it lightweight yet with great structure. Not forgetting the Liberty pattern tie, which is perfect for summer events.

We also offer Lavallières, a term used to describe Ascot ties worn for ceremonies. Our wedding ties are ideal with a blue suit. We recommend choosing a bold color that will bring out the blue of your suit, such as the yellow marl linen knit tie or the blue Liberty tie with white flowers.

The different materials of our men's ties

We use natural and noble materials for the making of our ties, such as silk, linen, wool, knit, and cotton. The exceptional craftsmanship of our weavers makes it possible to combine different materials for a more textured result. Sometimes ancient techniques allow us to create modern and original products in order to manufacture trend-setting and elegant pieces. Our latest addition is the knit tie: it adds a touch of originality to more traditional outfits.

The tie clip

The tie clip is important if you want your tie to stay perfectly in place along your shirt. There are two kinds: the one that clips by pinching both the shirt and the tie, or the clip through which you can slide both accessories. Very understated, the tie clip will integrate seamlessly into your outfit.

Ties, like bow ties or the pocket square, are accessories that can change everything about an outfit. The choice of tie highlights a man's personality, which is why it is essential to know what suits you. It is equally essential to know how to tie a knot. Nothing looks less sharp than a poorly tied knot. In order to perfect an elegant outfit, your tie knot must be flawless. For the more daring, stand out by attempting to tie a bow tie yourself.

A question about our collections?

To style a knitted tie, you have to:

  • Pair it with a cotton or oxford shirt: solid colors or subtle patterns work well to balance the texture of the tie.
  • Wear it with an unstructured blazer: a tweed, wool, or linen blazer complements the casual-chic look of a knitted tie.
  • Choose a casual suit: go for a cotton or lightweight wool suit rather than a formal one to keep the look relaxed yet polished.
  • Go for a button-down collar: avoid stiff collars; softer ones match the relaxed feel of the knit.
  • Keep the knot simple: a simple knot works best with the thicker fabric of a knitted tie.

It’s a stylish choice that adds a modern, laid-back elegance without being overly formal!

The key difference between silk and satin ties lies in the material and finish. Silk is a natural fiber, known for its luxurious feel, durability, and subtle sheen. Satin, however, refers to a weave and can be made from silk, polyester, or synthetic fibers. When woven into a satin finish, silk ties become smoother and glossier. Many satin ties, often made from polyester, are more affordable and resistant to wrinkles.

Here are some of the major differences:

  • Material: Silk ties are made from natural fibers, offering a luxurious feel and subtle sheen, whereas satin ties can be made from silk, polyester, or other synthetic materials.
  • Appearance: Silk ties have a more understated sheen than satin ties, which are shinier and more reflective.
  • Durability: Silk ties are durable but delicate, prone to snags and stains. Concerning satin ties, especially those made from synthetic fibers, they are easier to clean and more resistant to wear.
  • Suitability: Silk ties are versatile for both formal and semi-formal occasions, satin ties are best suited for formal events like weddings or evening functions.

To remove wrinkles from a tie, follow these gentle methods to avoid damaging the fabric:

  • Steam the tie: hang the tie in the bathroom while taking a hot shower, allowing the steam to relax the wrinkles. Alternatively, use a handheld steamer, holding it a few inches away from the tie to avoid getting it too wet or damaging delicate fabrics like silk.
  • Roll the tie: lay the tie flat on a clean surface, and tightly roll it from the narrow end to the wide end. Leave it rolled for a few hours or overnight. This can help the wrinkles smooth out naturally.
  • Use a damp cloth and iron: if using an iron, place a thin, damp cloth over the tie and set the iron to a low heat (silk setting for silk ties). Gently press the iron over the cloth, avoiding direct contact with the tie itself to prevent shiny marks or fabric damage.
  • Store properly: after each wear, hang or roll your ties to prevent new wrinkles from forming. Rolling is particularly effective for maintaining a smooth appearance.

A grenadine silk tie is a necktie made from 100% silk, known for its unique open weave pattern that creates a textured, honeycomb-like appearance. It offers a luxurious feel, with a slightly matte finish that distinguishes it from shinier satin ties. The breathable fabric is lightweight and flexible, providing both elegance and comfort.

Key features of grenadine silk ties include:

  • Unique Weaving: open weave for texture and breathability.
  • Luxurious Material: made from 100% silk with a natural luster.
  • Matte Finish: a more subdued shine compared to satin ties.
  • Versatility: suitable for formal and semi-formal occasions.
  • Knot-Friendly: holds knots well, making it easy to style.

Overall, grenadine silk ties are a sophisticated and versatile accessory for any wardrobe.
