Did you know there are two ways to knit a silk tie? The first method, the circular knitting, is simpler and cheaper and quite similar to how socks are made. Since less silk yarn is needed, you get a rather light and supple tie, also called soft knit. The second one does not only take longer to make, but also uses more silk (80 grams per tie): flat knitting, known as crunchy knit, is done on 16 metre long machines. The knitted silk is sewn into its tie shape and then stretched on wooden boards for 24 hours. This ensures the shape and drape of this dark green silk knit tie.
This green tie has been made in a centuries-old tie manufacture in Germany. Given the high amount and density of the silk, this knit tie is rather stiff and crisp to the touch, making a pleasant rustling sound between the fingers, typical for silk.
