Transforming horror into beauty.
Between 1964 and 1973 during the Vietnam War, more than 2 million tons of bombs were dropped on Laos, making it the most heavily bombed country (per capita) in human history. Since the 1970s, Laotian craftsmen and farmers have been recycling these bombs into spoons by recovering metal from the shells. Elizabeth and Camille, the brand's founders, drew inspiration from this unique expertise and decided to transform these bomb remnants into jewelry to raise funds in collaboration with MAG (Mines Advisory Group), which finances demining operations.
A positive approach.
The artisans, from one of the most heavily bombed provinces in Laos, work closely with Article22 to create these unique pieces of jewelry. The packaging also has its own story. Made from rice paper and cotton pouches, these are produced directly in Laos by a women's collective to help support more artisans - in total, Article22 employs more than 40 artisans in Laos.
