Turtleneck sweater
The turtleneck sweater is not just for Steve Jobs, although the tech guru actually wore the shorter mockneck sweater. Because turtlenecks are elegant and keep you warm, especially when they're made from Zegna Baruffa's extremely soft and guaranteed mulesing-free merino wool.
Turtleneck sweaters: Functional and elegant
The turtleneck: between chivalry, working class and fashion icon
We find traces of the turtleneck in the Middle Ages in a very chivalrous context since it was the knights who wore it under their chainmail to avoid neck injuries.
It was moreover for its utilitarian and functional side that it enjoyed great success among the working class in the 19th century. It was particularly among the maritime world that it found its audience. Regularly confronted with extreme conditions between cold and bad weather, fishermen and sailors, in search of a warm garment, wore it to protect themselves from the cold.
It was only from the 1960s that the turtleneck became the true fashion icon it is today. Popularized by many personalities from the art world or business like Steve Jobs or Andy Warhol, it was especially worn by one of the leading groups of the era: the Beatles. They established it as a true wardrobe essential for men and largely contributed to the success of this iconic piece.

Cashwool® wool: softness and robustness in one thread
Developed in the late 1970s by Zegna Baruffa, a famous Italian weaver based in the north of the country, in Biella, Cashwool® is an extra-fine merino wool, almost similar to cashmere, which provides exceptional wool halfway between the fineness and softness of cashmere and the strength and warmth of wool.
Concerned about the well-being and health of the sheep that Zegna Baruffa uses for the production of its wool, the breeder partner of the weaver commits not to practice mulesing on its sheep by guaranteeing mulesing-free wool certified by the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) label.
Last important point, Cashwool® wool has the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 label which guarantees non-toxicity of the textiles and dyes used.
It's me, the Italian
A family workshop based in Florence, Italy and specializing in the manufacture of knitwear and accessories for over half a century, our manufacturing workshop only works with Italian raw materials in order to better control traceability and compliance with social and environmental standards.
To avoid unnecessary waste, the workshop uses fully-fashioned construction which consists of shaping the garment directly by knitting and directly assembling the different parts together. In addition to limiting waste, this type of construction allows for cleaner and stronger finishes while ensuring more harmonious proportions.
