Winter is just around the corner, and with it some occasionally unpredictable days. Gone are the days of linen t-shirts and lightweight shorts — it's time for… overshirts!
Over or under, the overshirt adapts to changing weather in the blink of an eye. Depending on its material and thickness, it can replace your jacket in between seasons or slip under a heavy coat in the middle of winter — this is what's called layering. Water-repellent, resistant, warm and wrinkle-free, it's no wonder that boiled wool has been used for ages by Scandinavian peoples and alpine hunters!

Boiled wool: a fabric perfectly suited to its season
The base: 100% virgin wool
To design a winter overshirt that can withstand the season's harsh weather, the choice of material seemed immediately obvious to us: a 100% wool, thermoregulating fabric that keeps you warm when it's cold and breathes by wicking away moisture when it's warm. Pretty handy for avoiding unpleasant odors.
Wool, certainly, but not just any wool! It's with our Italian partner MTT (the Manifattura Tessile Toscana) that we placed our trust. Specialists in dense wool cloths since the 1960s, boiled wool has been at the heart of their expertise for over 30 years.
The felting treatment
But what exactly is boiled wool? No sheep or ball of yarn was cooked in a pot of boiling water. It's only after being knitted that the wool cloths go through the felting or milling stage. In a felting machine, they are plunged into a hot water bath and subjected to vigorous beating so that the wool fibers open up and then tighten. It is this process that deposits air bubbles in the wool and produces that felted appearance. In terms of finishing, and in order to be called "boiled wool", the wool coming out of the felting machine is dyed and then pressed or decatized. And there you have it: you get a warm, pleasant and adaptable wool that suits your needs.
