The origins of the French collar

The most classic collar that exists is the French collar. It's the basic and most common of all collars. At first glance, it's a rather formal collar, which was worn for formal occasions. But over the years, the French collar remains a timeless piece of the masculine wardrobe. It can be worn both formally to go to the office, and casually for informal events.

French collar, Italian collar - the difference?

The French collar has a slight opening and the collar points measure approximately 6-7 cm. The French collar and the Italian collar are two collars that are very similar, aesthetically and stylistically speaking. Unlike the Italian collar, the French collar is stricter, its shape is also suitable for round faces because this shape will tend to elongate them.

You can therefore choose to wear the French collar shirt in different ways. Its stylistic flexibility is an asset because you can accessorize this shirt or not. A French collar shirt in your wardrobe can therefore play two roles: that of the formal shirt worn for special occasions and that of the casual chic shirt worn for more relaxed occasions.

French collar with tie or bow tie?

The French collar can therefore accommodate accessories such as the tie or bow tie. Depending on the look you want to adopt, vary between tie and bow tie. To go to the office and have an elegant look, opt for a tie. However, if you are attending an event such as a ceremony, opt for a bow tie.

French collar shirt and French cuffs?

For more style and formality, you can therefore opt for the tie or bow tie, but these are not the only accessories that make the difference. Indeed, the French collar shirt can also be accessorized in another way, if it has French cuffs. Thus, cufflinks will add a touch of color to your outfit. They come in all colors, all shapes, it's the detail that makes the difference.
