A 100% natural wrinkle-free shirt
The complicated history of the wrinkle-free shirt
If there's one thing that frustrates the vast majority of men (and women for that matter) who wear shirts daily, it's the tedious task of ironing, or even the weekly trip to the dry cleaner and the unpleasant surprises it can bring.
Research and offers for so-called "wrinkle-free" shirts have been multiplying for over 50 years. A wrinkle-free shirt promises to eliminate all ironing for its happy owner, who, all too often, will be disappointed for one reason or another: either the shirt doesn't keep its promise and shows wrinkles after washing, or it is "rigid" or "cardboard-like". Let's say it right away, a beautiful wrinkle-free shirt doesn't exist ! Or it will be made from a rigid material, not pleasant to the touch and based on chemicals that make cotton lose all its softness.

And its happy ending with Thomas Mason
Recognized for its exceptional fabrics, the iconic British house Thomas Mason 1796 has developed a range of 100% natural wrinkle resistant shirt fabrics called Journey. Made from the finest Egyptian cottons and treated with environmentally-friendly products, the Journey range promises a shirt that remains impeccable, even if it has been worn all day or spent hours in a suitcase during a business trip.
A promise we've been confirming since 2020 with the launch of our first wrinkle-free shirt! They are incredibly comfortable to wear and after a wash cycle followed by drying on a hanger, we only needed a quick touch with the iron for a clean and smooth finish.
The foundation: superior quality cotton
Egyptian "extra long staples" (ELS) cotton
We often tell you, the key to a quality shirt is its fabric! And the fabrics from Thomas Mason's Journey range are made from the cream of cotton: Egypt's extra long staples cotton.
Cultivated exclusively on the fertile lands of the Nile Delta, ELS cotton fibers are among the most precious in the world ! The soil and climate of this region favor the growth of cotton fibers with exceptional characteristics:
- Min. 35 mm average fiber length (ELS)
- 87.3% uniformity index
- 44.6 g/tex fiber strength
- 74.8 rd degree of brightness
Spun and woven in Italy, the long, fine and uniform fibers of ELS cotton are the source of the robustness, silky hand feel and luminosity of Thomas Mason fabrics.

The plus: an innovative and eco-responsible
anti-wrinkle treatment

Historically obtained using an aggressive chemical formula based on formaldehyde, the "non-iron" or "no-ironing" shirt is often criticized for its cardboard-like appearance and lack of comfort. While we can appreciate its practical side, what man could do without the pleasant softness of a beautiful 100% cotton shirt? Not to mention that chemicals, such as formaldehyde, can prove dangerous to human health.
So how can we enjoy the easy care of a so-called wrinkle-free shirt without losing the appearance and comfort of cotton? By developing a new environmentally-friendly process with the best in their field!
The two treatment steps for a naturally wrinkle-free shirt:
1. Anti-wrinkle treatment in Belgium
It's in Belgium at a textile finishing specialist that the fabrics are bathed in a non-chemical solution at very low temperature that completely eliminates during drying.
This first treatment allows the cotton fibers to contract, giving them dynamic properties that prevent wrinkling and creases. Oeko-Tex certified, the Belgian company guarantees a process without toxic products for humans and the environment.
2. Application of a natural resin in Switzerland
After Belgium comes Switzerland where a second partner applies a natural resin preserving the natural beauty of cotton by keeping the cotton threads tight and parallel to each other.
As for the exact formula behind the process developed by Thomas Mason, you'll forgive us, but it's a carefully guarded trade secret.
The finish: European manufacturing
A century-old specialized workshop
Made in our workshop in Romania, our wrinkle-free shirts are crafted with the greatest care by our shirt-making artisans. Since 2016, we have entrusted our projects to this workshop with proven expertise, ISO 9001 and OEKO-TEX SteP certified, which has been passed down from generation to generation for nearly a century.
Mastering the art of sartorial tailoring
As with our other shirts, you'll find all the characteristics of a quality shirt including:
- English seams with 7 stitches per centimeter that provide elegance and strength
- reinforcement gussets on the side joints
- pearl-effect buttons made from eco-responsible plant resin sewn in a cross pattern
- the last buttonhole positioned horizontally to prevent unwanted openings
